Ralph Lauren Fine Model Car Collection Launch Event, 24th Nov 2011

December 2nd, 2011

The Ralph Lauren Fine Model Car Collection

Amalgam Fine Model Cars, H.R. Owen the Ferrari dealership of Knightsbridge, and Antonio Ghini Editor in Chief of the Official Ferrari Magazine and minder of the rich history of Ferrari, gathered with VIP guests at the Ralph Lauren New Bond Street Store to celebrate the launch of a superb precisely crafted collection of large scale models of the wonderful cars in the Ralph Lauren Collection.  Nick Mason generously brought along his 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which is widely admired as the best example of the most beautiful car ever created.  The beautiful 1962 race car valued at around £20 million was to be seen parked outside the main entrance along with a Ferrari 599 from H.R.Owen of Knightsbridge, a Ferrari SA Aperta owned by Mark Cale of System.3, and a fantastic Ferrari Enzo.

Ralph Lauren is widely known for his superb collection of historic motor cars.  His collection consists exclusively of the best examples of the rarest and most sought after cars in the world.  As a passionate collector of exclusive classic cars it was inevitable that many if not all roads would lead him to Maranello and unsurprisingly there are more Ferraris in Mr.Lauren’s collection than any other marque. The Ralph Lauren Car Collection is highly regarded for the exceptional rarity and calibre of the pieces it contains. Rather than creating a car collection in a systematic way Mr. Lauren has taken an individual approach acquiring cars that appeal to his personal sense of aesthetics.  With the exception of certain utilitarian vehicles all of his cars are European and all were created for racing or touring.  Many of the cars from the collection have a racing pedigree, even if they were also intended for use on the open road.

Amalgam Fine Model Cars are proud to have the unique opportunity to model all of the important cars within the Ralph Lauren collection in accurate and precise detail, starting with 8 of the 17 cars shown at the exhibition at Les Arts Decoratif in Paris earlier this year.  Models of the balance of 9 cars that were in the exhibition will be created during 2012.  The rest of cars in the collection will be modelled over the coming years.  The Ralph Lauren Fine Model Car Collection will be available exclusively from Ralph Lauren in a limited edition of just 99 of each car. Each individual model is authenticated with a unique edition number and certificate.

For over 16 years Amalgam FMC has been supplying the world’s best and most precise hand-made models to the automotive design and motor racing industries, and to collectors worldwide. In 1995 Amalgam Fine Model Cars began working with F1 Teams and in 1998 they began a lasting supply relationship with Ferrari.  Parallel with the expansion of their activities in Formula 1 Amalgam began to develop precise models of classic race cars.  The relationship with Ferrari went from strength to strength and there was a keen interest from Ferrari in developing models of all the significant cars in their rich racing history.  Developing the necessary processes and skills to make historic models that stand up well in the company of the original superb pieces of engineering was a demanding learning curve, but Amalgam are clearly producing models that do the originals justice.  Starting in around 2001 it was again Ferrari that provided the impetus to developing Amalgam’s capacity to quickly develop really superb models of Ferrari GT cars to show at the launch event for each new design. Amalgam’s superb models of these current Ferrari masterpieces have been much sought after by very high end model collectors, and many bespoke models of their cars have been made for owners.  Amalgam Fine Model Cars now offer 1:8 scale models of all of the Ferraris created since the F430, right through to the latest car launched in 2011, the Ferrari 458 Spider. In the last few years Amalgam Fine Model Cars have been producing one-off models at even larger scale for owners of the world’s most exclusive car collections.
The prestigious launch event took place at the Ralph Lauren Store at No1. New Bond Street in London.  The event was hosted by Antonio Ghini, Editor-in-Chief of the Official Ferrari Magazine and Tim Kearns of H.R.Owen in Knightsbridge.

Amongst the VIP guests present were:

Nick Mason of Pink Floyd

Maximillion Cooper of the Gumball Rally

David Nelson – Head of Design at Foster and Partners.

Mark Cale CEO of System.3

Stefano Saporetti – Head of Licensing and Brand at Ferrari Spa

Clive Beecham – MD of Kinnerton Chocolate

The models on display included;

Amalgam’s Managing Director, Sandy Copeman said of the project “The Ralph Lauren Collection is a unique representation of the pinnacle of automotive design history.  We view this opportunity to create large scale replicas of all the cars in the collection as both important and indeed very, very exciting”.

Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Voiture Noire – The Mysterious lost chassis no. 57453

September 5th, 2011

Shrouded in mystery, up until recently automotive historians never suspected existence of Bugatti’s ‘Black Atlantic’ chassis number 57453. Upon studying archived paperwork and photographs it became apparent that there was indeed another example of the Atlantic which had become lost in history towards the beginning of World War II. This stunningly detailed and accurate 1:8 scale replica has been developed and built by skilled craftsmen and engineers in close cooperation with Bugatti officials and automotive historians. Using archived images and 3D data acquired from one of only two confirmed surviving examples of the 57SC Atlantic, this is without a doubt the best piece of reference to chassis number 57453 available.
