Mercedes-Benz SSKL 1931 Mille Miglia at 1:8 scale

March 25th, 2015

We are close to finishing our first small batch of models of the 1931 Mille Miglia winning SSKL.

Rudolf Caracciola was the first non-Italian to win the Mille Miglia. He and Wilhelm Sebastian completed the 1,635 kilometres at an average speed just over 100 km/h. At the finish the car bore witness to the1,000 miles of very rudimentary and dirty roads it had sped through to win the race. We felt it appropriate to use our artistry and skills to show the car just as it crossed the line to take victory.

Here you can see the results of Michael Niemas’s fine work applying ‘race dirt’ with a spray gun and brush, with a final picture of him alongside the model for scale.

Amalgam Fine Model Cars at Amelia Island 2015

February 26th, 2015

The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is an automotive charitable event held each year during the second weekend in March at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island in Amelia Island, Florida. A New York Times article about celebrity car ownership listed “the nation’s top concours d’elegance: Pebble Beach in California, Meadow Brook in Michigan, Amelia Island in Florida and the Louis Vuitton Classic in midtown Manhattan.”

A Concours d’Elegance, literally “a competition of elegance” is according a beauty pageant for rare and elegant cars. Each entry is rated for authenticity, function, history, style and quality of restoration by a team of judges that includes specialists for each car type. A perfect score is 100, but any imperfection, no matter how slight, requires a fractional point deduction. Classes are arranged by type, marque, coachbuilder, country of origin, or time period.

Amalgam are proud to be one of the sponsors of this exciting event that this year takes place from March 13th – 15th. This year, the event is honouring Sir Stirling Moss OBE and accordingly, Amalgam will be displaying our world-class 1:8 scale model of the W196 Monoposto finished exactly as it was driven to victory at Aintree by Stirling Moss in 1955.

Viceroy hotel hosts Amalgam Fine Model Cars’ first Abu Dhabi display

November 20th, 2014

The F1 title decider between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at the Yas Marina circuit is the backdrop to our first event in Abu Dhabi.

We are showcasing four stunning 1:8 scale model cars; Ferrari LaFerrari, Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4, McLaren P1 and the Pagani Huayra in the Lightbox Gallery at the Viceroy hotel Abu Dhabi from Thursday 20 until Sunday 23 November.

It is no coincidence that this beautiful hotel has been chosen to spot light the LaFerrari model. As the hotel boasts 499 rooms, so this masterpiece of engineering will be crafted into only 499 limited editions in 1:12 and 1:8 scale models, just like the real car.

The Aventador LP720-4 celebrates Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary and we have created only 199 exact replicas in 1:8 scale of both the Roadster and Coupe with full exterior and interior detailing.

When opened, the doors of the 1:8 scale McLaren P1 model reveal the intricacies of this limited production plug-in hybrid supercar. Only 199 models are available of the successor to the McLaren F1 and each one can be fully personalised.

Pagani took inspiration from the Andean wind god to name their new mid-engined sports car, also known as project C9 and we have captured every fascinating detail of the Pagani Huayra in the 1:8 scale model.

Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder at 1:8 scale

November 20th, 2014

Only ten Ferrari 275s offically came from the Ferrari factory in spyder configuration. These were all made for Luigi Chinetti who was Ferrari’s North American Importer at the time.

Chinetti recognized the need for an alternative to the luxurious 330 GTS and convinced Ferrari to deliver his own ‘NART Spyder’.

Chinetti first got the idea for the car at the Paris Motor Show when the 275 GTB/4 was shown. Ferrari at first denied his request to build a factory spider, but after talking to Sergio Scaglietti who manufactured the 275 bodies, Ferrari was finally convinced. Chinetti named the car after his North American Racing Team (NART) which contested all the top races in US and abroad.

This stunning car has been created in exacting detail at 1:8 scale by Amalgam Fine Model Cars.

Ferrari 60th Anniversary Beverly Hills 2014

October 16th, 2014

Ferrari celebrated its 60th anniversary in America on Sunday at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The marque of the stallion took over the palm-lined street of gilded storefronts with a hugely impressive display of 60 cars, including some of its most significant race winners and what some insiders consider to be the most valuable Ferrari not currently on the market.

Among the highlights of the display, dubbed “Race Through the Decades: 1954–2014,” was a complete collection of all the special anniversary cars, including the 288GTO through to the LaFerrari, Steve McQueen’s Ferrari 275GTB/4, a number of Daytona and Le Mans winners, and this year’s Pebble Beach Concours Best in Show, a dramatic 375MM Scaglietti coupe.

Also parked in the lineup was what some think is possibly the most valuable Ferrari in existence, should it come up for auction. This yellow 1965 275GTB/C Speciale raced by Ecurie Francorchamps was one of three special-body 275s built for racing, this one featuring a voluptuously shaved-down roof that exaggerates the car’s proportions. It won the Le Mans GT class in 1965 and finished third overall. The owner, Florida swap-meet king Preston Henn, has had it since 1970. Henn, 83 and a former racer, was on hand as the car was fired up to the delight of the crowd.

Amalgam Fine Model Cars were proud to be a part of this illustrious event, with a show of world-class 1:8 scale replica Ferraris including; Ferrari 275 GTB/4, F40, 458 Italia, 458 Challenge and the stunning LaFerrari.
